GEO is one of the longest living Pakistani networks, and since it started, its daily soaps, reality shows, and drama serials have always had good TRPs. When Geo first started, it showed a lot of daily soap operas, which became popular. Some shows that aired on Geo TV in the 2000s and are still known today are Tere Pehlu Main, Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan, Kaash Main Teri Beti Na Hoti, Tum Ho Kay Chup, Doraha, and many more. The channel's ratings kept going up, but in 2014, the country banned the network because its morning show, Utho Jago Pakistan, promoted blasphemy. The channel was eventually unbanned, but its ratings went down and its content was criticised, and it took a while for it to get back on the charts with good ratings. In 2017, GEO started showing Khaani. The show was a huge hit for the network and was watched all over the world. Due to its huge popularity, it was later added to Netflix.

Around the same time, Ghar Titli Ka Par was also a big hit for the network in India, and it also got a lot of views on YouTube. The two drama series helped GEO break new ground and become the most watched channel in Pakistan, just like it did before it was banned. Since then, Geo has teamed up with 7th Sky Entertainment and made a number of shows that have broken records on TV and social media. In 2019, the network set two records for the most-watched show at 9:00 pm with the start of Bharosa Pyar Tera and the end of Dil-e-Gumshuda. Both shows got 17.0 TRP, which is a measure of how many people watched.

In 2020, Munafiq set a record for the most watched show at 7:00 pm with 22.75 TRP. It is also the second highest rated serial in the history of Pakistani television and is in the top trending list in India on YouTube. In recent years, Geo Entertainment has been criticised for things like its low picture quality on TV compared to HUM HD and ARY Digital, which have better picture quality, and for making dramas that are very Indianized by copying daily soaps from Indian networks and turning them into weekly drama serials or daily soaps as well to get more viewers. In recent years, shows like Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hai, Piya Naam Ka Diya, Ramz-e-Ishq, Yaariyan, Meharposh, Aye Dil Tu Bata, Deewangi, Kahin Deep Jalay, Rang Mahal, and many more have become popular both in Pakistan and around the world. There are also shows on Amazon Prime Video from the network, like Hiddat and Yaar-e-Bewafa.
